Create a role

  1. 1

    Open your team's events

Pick your team, then tap Volunteers in the top right of the events page.
The Testing Team Events screen listing games and practices, with the Volunteers button ringed in the top right beside a calendar icon.
Volunteers sits at the top right, next to the calendar icon — not in the bottom tab bar.
  2. 2

    Tap Manage Roles

That's where the standing roles live.
The Volunteers screen listing upcoming opportunities by date, with Show All, Create Slot and Manage Roles buttons, and Manage Roles ringed.
Create Slot adds a one-off job to a single event. Manage Roles is the one that repeats.
  3. 3

    Name the role

Use the name a parent would recognise on a signup sheet — Snack Shack, Scorekeeper, Field Setup. Add a description if the job needs explaining.
The Volunteer Roles screen showing existing roles with Edit and Delete, above an Add New Role form with Name, Description, Event Type, Home/Away, Slots per event and an Enabled switch.
Existing roles summarise as Game · Home & Away · 2 per event, which is the line to check when something looks wrong.
  4. 4

    Choose when it applies

Pick Game, Practice or Other, then Any, Home or Away.
Home is how you avoid asking for a Snack Shack volunteer at an away game you aren't hosting.
  5. 5

    Set how many you need

Slots per event is how many people to ask for each time. Two base coaches means two slots, and two parents can sign up.
  6. 6

    Tap Add Role

The role starts applying to games and practices created from now on.

When the slots actually appear

Slots are generated from your roles whenever a game or practice is created or its details change. That happens whether you added the event yourself or your league put it on your schedule — the roles are your team's, so they apply either way.

Because of that, a new role does not reach into the past. It applies to events created or edited after you add it, so an existing game keeps whatever slots it already had.

Turning a role off with the Enabled switch works the same way: it stops new slots being created, and leaves the ones already on your schedule alone.

How parents sign up

There are two ways in, and they lead to the same list. A parent can browse every open job across the schedule, or open one game or practice and see only that event's jobs.

Either way the button is Claim this role. A slot that's already taken shows who took it instead; to hand one back, open it and choose Make Open so it returns to the list for someone else.

Two ways to reach the jobs

Across the schedule
The Volunteers screen
Tap Volunteers on the events page. Jobs are grouped by date with the number still open. Tap a date to expand it, then claim the one you want.
An expanded date group showing an Assistant Coach slot marked Open, with the event details and a Claim this role button ringed.
Each job names the event it belongs to, so a parent can tell a practice slot from a game slot.
Include league volunteer roles adds the league's jobs to this list
One event
A game or practice
Open the event, then tap the Volunteers tab. The tab carries the count, so Volunteers 0/2 tells a parent there is something to do before they even open it.
The Practice Details screen with Info, Drills, RSVP, Volunteers and Check-in tabs, the Volunteers tab selected showing two Assistant Coach slots marked Open, each with a Claim this role button.
Two slots because the role asks for two per event — this is what Slots per event looks like to a parent.

Questions

Common questions

I can't find Manage Roles
Creating roles needs Team Admin, Coach or Team Parent. Without one of those the button isn't shown, so ask whoever runs your team to add the role or change your access.
I added a role but it isn't on my games
Roles apply to events created or changed after you add them, so games already on your schedule keep the slots they had. Open one of those games and edit it to pick up the new role.
The same job is listed twice
Your league is probably creating that role as well as you. Turn yours off with the Enabled switch, or delete it and let the league's stand.
Can I ask for more than one person for a job?
Yes. Set Slots per event to the number you need and that many people can sign up for each game or practice.
How do I stop asking for a role without losing the history?
Turn off its Enabled switch instead of deleting it. New events stop getting the slot, and everything already claimed stays as it is.
Why is there a job on an away game?
The role's Home/Away setting is on Any. Edit it and choose Home so it only applies to games you host.
Someone signed up and can't make it
Open the slot and choose Make Open. It goes back on the list for another parent to claim.
